The word graffiti comes from an Italian word, graffiato (“scratched”). It refers not only to that underground culture, those designs that perhaps you have seen in some streets of your city… The graffiti art history starts in Rome- referred to the inscriptions found on the walls of ancient sepulchers or ruins as the Catacombs of Rome or Pompeii- and also in Greece. In our modern times the English poet Lord Byron will scratch his name in the Temple of Posidon at Cape Sunion in Greece, like the actual graffiti artists leave their signature on the walls of our cities. After 70’s graffiti will be part of pop culture and will become a discipline into contemporary art…
